TRAVEL POLICY

– Check-In Requirements:

  • We kindly ask passengers to check in at least 45 minutes before departure to ensure a smooth boarding process. Smith’s Ferry reserves the right to consider passenger as a NO SHOW and will accommodate stand-by passengers 10 minutes prior to departure.

– Government Immigration Laws:

  • All passengers are required to comply with all government immigration laws by presenting valid passports and necessary travel visas when required.
  • UK Passport Holders: To enter or transit through the US, you must have either a printed copy of your Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) visa waiver or a visa
  • If you are unsure about your visa requirement for travel into the US, the US State Department has more information on visas or you may check via their Visa Wizard 
  • Passports should have at least six (6) months validity for some countries. Be sure to check the six month rule via www.cbp.gov 
  • Visitors traveling to the U.S. are required to be in possession of passports that are valid for six months beyond the period of their intended stay in the U.S. Exempt Countries

– Right to Travel:

  • Smith’s Ferry reserves the right to deny travel to any passenger who does not possess the proper travel documents required for travel
  • Additionally, passengers may be refused travel for inappropriate behavior that violates our code of conduct or compromises the safety and comfort of others.

– Fares and Fare Changes:

  • Please note that fares for our services may change.
  • We reserve the right to refuse carriage to anyone who has purchased a ticket in violation of applicable laws or our service rules.

– Government Immigration and Customs Form:

To complete the British Virgin Islands online immigration and customs portal, here are a few tips to cover some of the most frequently asked questions:

  • Access the Portal: Go to the British Virgin Islands online immigration and customs website using a smartphone device, as it is required to complete this form.
  • Section One: Port Vessel Information:
  • Vessel Name: Enter “SF” as a substitute for the vessel name.
  • Vessel Registration Number: Passengers should enter “SF” followed by the departure time in hours and minutes.For example, if your departure time is 9:00 am, the vessel registration number should be “SF900”.
  • Time of Departure: Ensure you indicate your exact time of departure in the relevant field.
  • Wi-Fi Availability: Wi-Fi is available at the ferry terminal as well as aboard the vessel, making it convenient to access the portal.
  • Complete Before Arrival: It is important that this form be completed before your arrival to the British Virgin Islands.

To enter the US Virgin Islands an entry form is no longer required.

-Government Fees & Taxes

All passengers are responsible for their individual port fees, environmental fees, and departure taxes when traveling between the USVI and British Virgin Islands. These fees are separate from the ferry cost and must be paid in addition to your ticket price.

  • A $10 port fee applies for travel from St.Thomas to Tortola
  • Upon entry to the BVI an environmental fee of $10 is due 
  • Upon departure from the BVI a departure tax of $15 for residents and $20 for non-residents is due

– Ticket Validity:

  • Your ticket is valid for six months from the date of issue, giving you flexibility in planning your trip!
  • Please note that change fees may apply.

– Luggage Responsibility:

  • We are dedicated to handling your luggage with utmost care during your travel to your destination. However, please note that we do not accept responsibility for any lost or damaged items. Passengers are responsible for collecting their luggage after disembarking the vessel. All luggage is placed in customs for individual passenger clearance.

– Baggage Guidelines:

  • Each passenger is allowed one free carry-on bag with maximum dimensions of 18 H x 14 W x 8 D inches.

– For checked bags:

– 2nd checked bag: $10

– 3rd checked bag: $15

– 4th checked bag: $20

– Additional bags: $25 each

– Overweight charges will be applied for bags over 50 lbs.

  • We encourage passengers to avoid overpacking bags to help prevent strain on handles and stitching when being lifted. Let’s keep things manageable!

– Cargo Charges:

  • Cargo fees start at $15 and can go up to $60 or more based on size and weight.
  • Additionally, boxes and packed coolers are considered cargo, with costs starting at $15 per piece, increasing based on size and weight.
  • Please note that passenger luggage takes priority, and in the event of space limitations, cargo may be bumped to the next ferry.
  • Ensure that all cargo is securely packed and labeled, and remember to mention any special items during check-in to facilitate smooth handling.

– Weight Limitations:

  • For safety reasons, we do not transport items that exceed 50 lbs. Thank you for your cooperation!

– Refund Policy:

  • Refunds are issued at the discretion of management and are typically granted only in cases of cancellation due to mechanical failure or severe weather
  • In the event of such cancellations, customers will be informed promptly and provided with options for rescheduling or receiving a refund
  • Refunds are subject to a 20% service charge if requested 48 hours before your travel date.

– Changing Carriers:

  • If you need to change to another carrier, please confirm availability with the other carrier first, if transfers are available as you will be subject to a transfer fee.
  • This is only available for passengers whose flight was delayed or other such qualifying circumstances.

– Code of Conduct:

  • Respectful Behavior: All passengers must treat fellow travelers and staff with respect. Abusive behavior, including verbal or physical aggression, will not be tolerated.
  • Decent Language:Use of indecent or offensive language is prohibited. Passengers are expected to maintain a courteous and polite manner at all times.
  • Appropriate Attire:All passengers must be dressed appropriately, including wearing shirts and shoes at all times.
  • Follow Instructions: Adhere to all instructions given by ferry staff and crew. Their guidance is essential for the safety and comfort of all passengers.
  • Safety First: Ensure that safety protocols are followed, including wearing life jackets when required and adhering to posted safety signs.
  • No Disruption: Maintain a calm environment. Loud or disruptive behavior that affects the enjoyment of others is not allowed.
  • Cleanliness:Keep the ferry clean by disposing of trash properly and respecting shared spaces.
  • Alcohol Consumption:Passengers consuming alcohol must do so responsibly. Intoxicated individuals may be denied the right to board and may be asked to disembark for the safety of all.
